Halloween Perler Bead Patterns: Pumpkin, Ghost & Bat Tutorials
How to make Halloween fuse bead designs: grid sizes, a classic four-color palette and ironing tips for jack-o'-lanterns, ghosts and bats, plus garland and magnet ideas.

Halloween is prime time for fuse beads: every icon is abold silhouette in few colors, so beginners get great results fast, and the finished pieces are decorations in their own right. This tutorial covers five classic designs — grid sizes, palettes and the details that make them read — enough to build a full garland in a weekend.
Pick a shape and grid size
Halloween designs are bold silhouettes: a jack-o'-lantern around 29×29, a ghost 21×28, a bat 32×16. The simpler the silhouette, the better it reads at small sizes.
Lock a themed palette
The classic four: pumpkin orange, black, ghost white and vine green, plus one purple accent. Keep any design under 6 colors to make shopping and beading easier.
Outline first, fill second
Bead the outer contour first, then fill inward. For symmetric designs like bats and pumpkins, work outward from the centerline so both halves stay even.
Iron to fuse
Small decorations that will hang do best ironed on both sides. Medium heat, steam off, slow circles, then cool under a flat weight. See the full ironing tutorial for details.
Assemble into decorations
Hot-glue cotton string to finished pieces for a garland, or add magnets for the fridge. Leave the face cells empty on jack-o'-lanterns and drop in an LED candle at night.

Design Cheat Sheet: Sizes & Colors
Ordered easiest first — the first three are the demos in this post:
| Design | Suggested grid | Colors | Best as |
|---|---|---|---|
| Candy corn | 16×16 | 3 | Pin, fridge magnet |
| Ghost | 21×28 | 2–3 | Wall decal, bookmark |
| Bat | 32×16 | 2–3 | Door garland |
| Jack-o'-lantern | 29×29 | 5–6 | Hanging ornament |
| Spiderweb | 40×40 | 2 | Large window decal |
Size decides your pegboard: anything up to 29×29 fits a single square board; the 40×40 spiderweb works best on a round board where the web can follow the edge.
Jack-o’-lantern: the Face Is Everything
The pumpkin itself is easy — an ellipse plus two darker orange vertical ridges reads instantly. What decides the result is the face kit: triangle eyes, a small triangle nose, a zigzag mouth. Pointers:
- Make the eyes 4–5-cell triangles on the same baseline — one cell off and the whole expression slants
- Draw the mouth as an 8–10-cell horizontal bar first, then add two or three 2-cell teeth up and down; far more controllable than freehand curves
- Curl the two corner teeth upward and the face turns from scary to cheeky
- Skip the black face beads entirely and drop an LED candle behind — a real lantern

Ghost & Bat: Two Colors Each
The ghost needs only white and light gray: domed top, straight body, wavy hem. Tall oval eyes give it life. For a floatier feel, deepen the bottom wave by two cells — it looks lighter once hung.

The bat lives or dies onthe scalloped wing edge: two or three arc notches between wingtips and body turn a black triangle into a bat. Purple reads better than pure black, and two yellow bead-eyes are all the detail it needs.

Palettes: One Set Covers the Whole Holiday
Prepare one palette per mood instead of re-sorting beads per design:
- Classic night: pumpkin orange, black, ghost white, vine green, mystery purple — the full Halloween set for matching garlands
- Candy: orange, lemon yellow, pink, white — candy corn and cute pumpkins, kid-friendly
- Glow: white glow-in-the-dark beads for ghosts and skulls — unbeatable by a window after dark
Color codes map straight to real bead palettes by hex, so there is no guesswork when you shop.
Ironing & Assembly
Iron hanging pieces on both sides for durability; single-side for wall and window decals keeps them light. Press flat under a weight while cooling — troubleshooting for curling edges is in thefuse bead ironing tutorial. For garlands, glue the string at the top center of each piece so the load hangs straight.
